About
I’ve always been drawn to all sorts of art forms. I think it runs in the blood as my dad and sisters are all incredibly talented and passionate about creating. I made my first longboard skateboard with my dad when I was 10 years old and have had a passion for surfing and skating ever since. High school art classes really helped me grow as an artist and to this day, the only honors class I ever took was Honors Sculpture IV.
It feels as though I am just getting started with this endeavor and all I want to do is continue learning and further enhance the artistry that comes with it.
Like many cruisers in Ocean City, I used to have a milk crate secured to the back of my ride. While it was practical, it didn't quite complement the vintage Schwinn's aesthetic.
Desiring something equally practical yet stylish to match my old-school ride, I embarked on creating the first Penny Crate.
Penny Crates originate from reclaimed wooden wine crates, typically used to ship 6 or 12 bottles of wine, predominantly sourced from France and Italy. Contrary to the widespread use of cardboard, about 95% of wineries opt for wooden crates for wine storage.
I personally reshape most crates to serve various purposes while maintaining the original design engraved by the wine maker, ensuring integrity and character are preserved. While the crates inherently possess appeal, our meticulous process—resizing, sanding, staining, applying multiple coats of urethane, and embedding the signature penny—brings forth an entirely new level of beauty and individuality to these functional items.
